About Our Bamboo Floors
As many of the natural gifts to mankind, bamboo has been used in many useful ways since the beginning of time. These days, this versatile –and renewable- plant is finding its way into homes as an attractive environmental alternative to wood floors.
Bamboo floors are durable and resistant as wood or other hardwood flooring. It is adapted to stands up extremes conditions, as well as constant temperature changes and humidity of the tropical weather.
Fresh & mature bamboo clums are split and flattened lenghtwise into strips of equal dimensions, which are processed & klin dried before being pressed against each other, then glued under high pressure to form raw planks.
The "Moso" bamboo, a controlled forest product from the South of China, is an environmentally friendly product cultivated and harvested, without damaging the ecological system of renewal. Different from the wood that takes decades to grow mature, the parent bamboo plant develops new stems, so the stems can be harvested after 6 years in a mature plant without decreasing the size of the forest. It reaches a maximum hight of approximately 30 meters in 6 months.
Just like other hardwood or laminate floors, the bamboo is processed and manufactured to achieve strength and stability. The bamboo flooring planks are machined with tongue and groove edges to provide interlocking assembly. Each piece is machine sanded on top, with rough glue-ready surface on bottom. Floors are prefinished in the factory with 7 UV cured German Treffert aluminum oxide finish which is highly anti-scratch and abrasion resistant.
At DECO BAMBOO we offer 100% solid bamboo floors, thus perfectly fitted to be installed and glued on top of concrete surfaces, or nailed or stapled down to wood sub-flooring surfaces.
